English 1006
Prompt #32
7 November 2013
In class today
Considering what people said about "The Tell-Tale Heart"
We'll begin by giving everyone a chance to read what everybody
else said about reading the rest of the story. Lots of really
interesting responses, and I don't want good ones to get missed
(actually, I don't want ones that ren't so good to get missed,
either). So I've created eight different two-page sets of
responses. You'll get one to start with. The first thing you
should do is put your name at the top of the page. Then read
through all of them with some care. Then read them again, and
choose a first, second and third choice for the ones you think
most valuable. Put a large, firm "1" in the left margin of your
first choice, and do the same for 2 and 3.
I'll then redistribute people into groups according to which set
they have, and ask groups to settle on a first and second choice,
and a spokesperson to explain to the rest of us what your reasons
are. The spokesperson should be someone who hasn't acted in that
role for the last two or three times we've done this.
Considering what people found about "The Tell-Tale Heart"
Between now and Tuesday, read through all the postings on the Information
about Poe and "The Tell-Tale Heart" thread of the forum.
Choose two that you think are the most valuable -- in that they
change the way you understand, or respond to, or value the story.
For each, post a short explanation of what difference the posting
makes to your reading of the story.
Other work
There will be a prompt this afternoon explaining how we'll
continue the evaluation process (it would have been there last
night except that I ran into some trouble with the STU web server;
I think it's been cleared up now).
Also, of course, if you've gone to The Odyssey,
post about it; if you're still planning to attend, remember the
deadline.,
