English 3236 Restoration and Eighteenth Century Drama and Theatre
Prompt # 50
15 February 2013

Reading some Dryden

In class this morning

Since there was no class this morning, let's move ahead.

Our next reading is going to be Dryden's Essay of Dramatic Poesy. You need to find a copy of it. A print copy, from the library, edited by someone and published.

We'll begin, for Wednesday morning, by reading the opening section, down to where the four gentlemen agree to discuss drama rather than poetry in general, and agree they should start with a definition. When you've got that far, post a reflection on your reading, identifying as many questions generated by the text as you can. At least a half dozen questions, more is better. They should be questions you can imagine someone actually answering, and to which you don't already know the answer.

There is a forum, Reading Dryden on Dramatic Poesy, where you can post your reflection and your questions.

Post it before 8:00 Wednesday morning. Bring your edition of the Essay to class with you.

If you haven't posted your questions and aren't bringing a copy, email the class list before 8:00 Wednesday to say so.
