Anne and Russ take a break at Ridgeback Lodge
August 29-31, 2012
We crossed the Grand Bay - Westfield ferry and up the west side of the peninsula looking for Old Reach Road. The signs for the lodge were, um
, less than impressive.
The main building was nice, though
, even though the interior of the main lodge was a little scary.
Our cabin, the Robin's Nest, though
, was quite nice, clean, convenient and well furnished,
, with a very strange wood stove
and a gas barbecue
which we actually used. Just below the cabin was a walkway with these weird grasses growing along it
, and we could look up toward the St. John River and Belleisle Bay.
There were nicely mowed trails
everywhere, and eventually
we followed pretty much
all of them, following the occasional signs
, admiring the thermometer hanging skill
, puzzling over what was eating the top of this tree
and discovering the swimming pond
and taking a bit of advantage of it.
We also took their canoe out from this beach
into Kingston Creek
, which was about as weedy as anything we've been on recently. On various hikes we found a lovely lily pond , discovered what seemed to be a hunting blind
and came upon some very intriguing
signs
, which of course we followed, and came upon this neatly mowed meadow
-- which seemed extremely odd
, with cars which didn't seem especially antiquey, though
clearly pretty
old.
But really what we were there for was quiet dinners
, which we had.
