assignments:

Q1. 1.15. "why is there a 'construction of an orthodox account'?"
Answers: it's easier to tell women to take the steps to prevent violence; it outlines the basic information of a case; it gives the readers an objective narrative; the myth of stranger helps push a different narrative than what's actually happening; re-telling the same story makes the seriousness of SA less prominent; although initially helpful it dulls cases into a predictable storyline; it simplifies the assault and keeps things predictable; it is simplified to prevent speculation; it can be overwhelming with too much detail; it takes the responsibility off men and puts it onto women; it makes less work for the police when they can blame the victim; it is easier for the authorities to ask women to be cautious then to track down the men; it informs and warns the public of the risk that surrounds them; manipulates the situation and shifts blame onto the victim; it is a baseline to examine other similar situations; the news doesn't look at the women's perspective; it downplays the assault and gives women the sole responsibility for prevention; people will believe these stories because they seem them as normal; the issue is slanted and downplayed; seems appealing to read; history has caused stigma against women, and it is believed by law enforcement that they must protect themselves; it is simplified in a world pervaded by crime, and takes the power off those who speak up; the police give out a vague statement to cover themselves; society constructs unreasonable solutions to “prevent” these things from happening which often makes people responsible for things that they shouldn’t be responsible for; it creates a narrative that is easy for people to follow, which unintentionally or intentionally protects the men.
Q2. 1.26. Should the 'victims exhibit' have been allowed to be public?  Answers: Yes IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII = 20; No I = 1 ; Split IIIII I = 6
Q3. 1.29. For Wed., watch video "reframing the montreal massacre", and summarize key theme, 27mins: http://vimeo.com/6996357
Q4. 2.05. What is the advantage of this approach? (thematic analysis)
Answers: raising awareness; it gives the victim more voice; working with journalists to develop best practices; the topic should be discussed more broadly in the media; as it is redefined as a public issue it becomes less taboo; it shows how the media frames issues; with more awareness the number of cases will go down; to better represent the reality; putting research to work; better data collection; better information; reporting more about the victim rather than the crime done to them; reframing the issue as a social problem; not blaming the victim; it looks at the issue as a social problem rather than a single private tragedy; public outreach; better understanding of terminology; to better inform the public; raise awareness without shaming the victim; to help bring awareness about media misrepresentation; to see how issues are framed.
Q5. 2.09. Explain the discourse of "Why animal-rights is not a luxury", after watching the video, 20mins, www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixGoULHxD98
Q6. 2.14. How can we springboard from the analysis of 'social problems' to another topic? Excuseable but not makeupable.
Q7. 2.16. How effective was the resistant discourse (in the bathhouse raids)? Did it make a difference? Excuseable but not makeupable.
Answers: It was effective because it was empowering, shaped public opinion, and influenced social change; it was effective because the protests got bigger and bigger; things have changed significantly, with countless fights for human rights fuelled by anger; they are effective initially; it brought forward civil rights issues of a minority population, and human rights violations; it was effective in portraying the power imbalance regarding those who were disobedient for being gay/lesbian... police attempting to portray the gay community as evil got them hitler saluted in response; it gave people a sense of power to fight back for what they believed in; it matters a great deal in that what began as an attack on queeer people and queer spaces resulted in large protests and a shift in media coverage; the resistance made it harder for homosexuals to be demonized; the police were wrong and over time people began to figure it out; it started the conversation that initiated change but it was not immediate; in the moment perhaps not much... however with time this has been a huge mark for the lgbtqia+ communities...
Q8. 2.23. In lieu of class, please send me a short description of what a riot is, with a visual example.
Q9. 3.22. How is power embedded in the word 'hooker', and what does it accomplish? Excuseable but not makeupable.
Q10. 3.27. Coverage (of the Westray mine explosion) is highest when it’s (called) a disaster but lowest when it is (called) a crime… what is the consequence of this pattern? Excuseable but not makeupable.

proposal and project:

opoids -- 3 pages, 2 refs; there is a lot of information about naloxone, opioid use, and overdoses; however there is no use of 'discourse' -- perhaps this could be clarified? overall, this is a potentially good topic, if it is aligned more with the course. C13 project: 14 slides including titleslide and refsslides, pictures, and sometimes too much text on the slides; text is in the notes except for the ones itled 'discourse analysis' and 'media coverage', so the text is incomplete and too short for the essay component; overall, a good topic, and one which has and still is evolving, so it could be developed more substantively. C-18

kenbarbie -- extension; 2 sspaced pages with subtitles; extensive refspage; the idea is good, to look at how the two were treated (differently) in the media; more on how the media will be chosen, and what a typical difference looks like would add more detail; overall, good topic, could be developed more. B+15.5 project: extension; 10 sspaced pages with subtitles and 3 refspages, which makes it overly long; however, there is extensive discussion of the media coverage of the crimes, although not of how it was found or chosen; the gender-based analysis is good, and detailed; overall, excellent work, could have more discussion of method. A26/30

ecolepoly -- extension; 2 sspaced text pages with pictures and subtitles, refspage; this is very detailed in arguing that the issue was (at least initially) misframed, and that violence against women was not identified as the issue; this shows a lot of work, excellent beginning. A-16 project: extension; 14 slides, including titleslide and 2 refsslides; all the text is on the slides, not in the notes, which makes for cluttered slides and a short essay; there are some interesting pictures, and the overall theme is good, that the media seemed reluctant to name the issue for what it was; more explicit development of the discourse angle in particular would make the analysis more explicit, and more development overall would help meet thelength requirement; overall, good work B- 21/30

femicide -- ext; 4 sspaced pages including titlepage, subtitles, pictures, and refspage; this shows a lot of work in terms of looking at general issues, and the lack of historical coverage is important; in a sense, IPV (intimate partner violence) was 'discovered' at some point, and then gets more coverage; overall, good topic, could have more detail about sample. A-16 project: extension; 9 dspaced pages including titlepage, subtitles, pictures, and refspage; a fairly extensive discussion of media coverage and different types of violence against women, and using more examples would help to make the analysis more explicit; overall, good discussion of the issues, needs grounding in media articles, lyrics, etc. A-24

homeless -- late; 2+ sspaced pages with subtitles; extensive refspage; excellent beginning, with the identification of a news sample, the different speakers who are represented (or not), and the ensuing public discussion about the development means; could use more quotations of discourse; excellent work. A17 project: extension; there are 29 slides, including titleslide and 2 refsslides; all the text is on the slides and none in the notes which makes for very crowded slides, and there are also no pictures to relieve the text; there is an intro section on 'framing for public consumption', the presentation of statements by project representatives, and by politicians and community members; the 'counter/discourse' is well explained, and the conclusions drawn are reasonable; overall, this shows a lot of work, and is a good topic; more on slide design would improve readability. A26

blm -- 2 text pages with picture, plus mixed refspage; this is a strong beginning, proposing to look at blm, its origins, and discourse surrounding it; including some detail of what this discourse looks like would strengthen the analysis; could use subsections to organize themes; overall, good beginning. B15 project: extension; 5 min video covering various issues, with pictures and diagrams; overall, innovative to develop a video, and more explicit focus on discourse would strengthen the analysis. B+23/30

mmiw -- 2 pics, one page points, subtitles, several refs; this is an important topic, and a lot is proposed, maybe it can be shortened to make it more concise; it is also unclear what will be examined?, public discourse?, from where; overall, good topic, could be clearer about what is to be done. B- 14 redo 3.08. 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, images, and refs; the re-proposal is theoretically sophisticated, and altho it is unclear what 'media' will be examined this looks promising. A-16 project: 15 slides with too much text on the slides and not enough in the notes, which makes for cluttered slides and a short essay component; the analysis of how indigenous women are portrayed differently than non- is good, as is, especially, the mention of hashtag activism; overall, this is excellent, and the essay could be developed more, as could more explicit examples of media coverage. A-24

femalesk -- 2 sspaced pages with picture and subtitles, refspage; there are a lot of different issues here, such as victims of intimate partner violence, to female serial killers; if the topic was narrowed down more it would be more focused, or maybe if it focused more on a killer like aileen wuornos; overall, good topic. B15 project: 9 slides including 7 dspaced pages text, no titlepage; the analysis centres around how female serial killers are characterized as different than male ones, and as different from normal females, which is a sound point, and could be illustrated through more examples; stylistically, the project would also benefit from images, such as some from the film 'monster'; overall, good topic, and good analysis, could use more development in style and content. B22.5/30

sexwork -- 2 pages plus 3 references; this is a good, general discussion of how sex work is represented in society; making it more specific as to the sources of this information would strengthen the analysis; perhaps finding media examples of when prostitution is decriminalized? overall, good topic, needs narrowing down. B-14 project: 14 slides including titleslide, refsslide, videolink, minimal text on slides, clean design; the text in the notes is small, and so the essay component is short and could be developed more, as could the 'discourse' angle; overall, good topic, good presentation, needs to develop the theme, and the essay, more. C-18

gaza -- one page plus, singlespaced, plus refs; this is an important topic, yet it reads more like a poli sci project, eg. "the proposal will offer policy recommendations for international actors, encouraging diplomatic initiatives and peace-building efforts."; more on the discourse angle would strengthen it. C13 project: 12 slides including titleslide and refsslide, and a couple of slides with videos; the text in the notes looks short for the essay component, and the videos need more explanation; overall, the project aims to show how media discourse creates a narrative of the conflict, yet it seems unchanged from the proposal, thus needs to be developed more substantively. C-18/30

resistance -- 3 pages with subtitles, mixed refspage; in general terms, eugenics seems to have been a theory which was justified (discursively) along ideological lines; more examples of this discourse, and of the specific discourse of resistance would strengthen the analysis; overall, interesting international topic, good beginning. B15 project: extension; 13 slides including titleslide and refsslide; the text in the notes looks a bit short for the essay component; the use of eugenics to control a population is associated with the worst of motives in the 20thC, and parallels are made to indigenous people in Canada; describing the resistance videos would help make the analysis more explicit; overall, this is an interesting and important topic, and the resistant angle could be developed more. B+23/30

pickton -- one sspaced page with 2 pictures, and media references; this is an excellent topic, because there is so much of a public side to the issue... there is the private side which we glimpse, but then there are the denials, the declarations, and the disappointments, all of which are of public discourse; strong beginning. A-16 project: 8 dspaced pages including titlepage, refspage (none academic), no subtitles or images; the analysis has fairly general statements about what the media does or doesn't disclose, and using examples from the media can help make this more substantial; additionally, more use of theoretical tools like 'framing', and 'claimsmakers' would make the analysis more detailed; overall, good topic, could be developed more substantively. B22.5

9/11 -- 2 sspaced pages with picture, subtitles, plus mixed refspage; there is a lot here about the events and reaction to them, and words like 'justified', and 'discussions'... that discourse angle has to be developed more explicitly; overall, good topic, strong beginning, has to develop the discourse angle more. B15 project: 17 slides including titleslide, two refsslides; text is in the notes, and the slides themselves are well designed with pictures; the analysis takes a logical progression from event to aftermath to reaction; the discourse angle eg. by politicians, could be more explicit and would strengthen the analysis; overall, great topic, good work, could develop the discourse angle more. B22.5/30

parkland -- 2 sspaced pages, with subtitles, webrefs page; nice idea, to look at how the media articles are framed, and where the blame is laid; good use of concepts, such as seeing whether the media's treatment is 'sympathetic' or not; overall, excellent beginning, well organized and planned. A17 project extension; 7 dspaced pages with subtitles and pictures, plus 1.5 pages news references, none academic; the analysis is fairly general, and would benefit from more explicit quotes, etc, to show how the media creates a 'template' for the analysis of school shootings; overall, a good treatment of the issues, could use more examples, and discussion of theoretical issues. B22.5

robertp -- 4 pages with subtitles, plus refspage; discussion of how these cases were neglected so long is good, and the media/discourse angle needs to be stronger, as in the 'discourse of blame' -- this could be expanded more... were the victims in effect blamed for what happened to them; overall, good topic, more on discourse. B+15.5 project: 8 dspaced textpages plus titlepage, subtitles, and references; the analysis is broad, using terms like 'discourse of blame', and more examples of what this looks like, in quotations, would make the analysis more explicit; overall, good work, could be developed more. B+23/30

fentanyl -- 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, plus titlepage, and refspage; there is a lot here about the dangers of the drug, and some cases where it caused death; more on the discourse angle, eg. 'education and awareness' would be good to spell out and show as examples of what could be done; overall, needs more focus on discourse. B-14 project: the 13 slides, with subtitles and references, go thru a mini-history of how fentanyl has changed in terms of its image over time, and thus how the image of the user has changed as well; the analysis is detailed, and suggestive; stylistically, using images in the text would add more visual appeal; overall, excellent work, could develop style of the essay presentation more. B+23/30

abortion -- 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, two maps, and several references; the discussion of the politics around abortion is good, and showing how its control are part of a white, conservative male agenda... this makes it a matter of discourse, implicitly... more on explicit discourse would be good. overall, strong beginning. B+15.5 project: extension; 17 slides including titleslide and two refsslides; minimal text on the slides, and the text is in the notes; the project is premised on US events, and including or looking at Canadian info would be more relevant, although it is agreed that the US seems to dominate the anti-abortion debate currently; as well, the discourse angle could be more explicit, eg. in the overturning of Roe v Wade; overall, the project is more of an abortion topic, and could develop the discourse angle more, especially given how important that debate is. B+23/30

homeless2 -- c3103; 4 sspaced pages including titlepage, extensive refspage, and 2 pages text with subtitles and pictures; looking at how the media portrays homelessness over time is a good topic, and a 'snowball' sample of articles should provide lots of attitudes, however interviews adds a lot of unnecessary work, as those interviews have probably already been done and can be retrieved from news articles and academic analyses; overall, good topic, including some samples of 'homeless' talk would add to analysis. A-16 project: extension; with 3403; 11 slides including titlepage, refspage, text in the notes, too much text on the slides; good on the importance of a qualitative approach, especially interviews; could be longer for two courses, and the discourse section could be expanded as well; overall, excellent work. A-24

hockey -- 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, plus refspage; this is an important topic, especially given its high-status in the public arena; more on the discourse of denial, acceptance, liability, and so on would make it more relevant to the course; perhaps how it is discussed in the media? overall, good topic, needs more 'discourse'. C+15.5 project: extension; 10 dspaced pages including titlepage and refspage; no subtitles, images, diagrams, or extensive quotations; references should be used when making claims about the 'typical' sex assault story; overall, this is a very interesting topic, and to follow how the media covers it is good, although general, so including more explicit quotations of what coverage 'looks like' would strengthen the analysis. B-21

CP5 -- 4 pages plus refs; excellent use of the idea of 'media narratives;, and how the case was framed in court and for the wider public; more explicit mention of what these narratives looked like would add more detail to the analysis, but this is an excellent beginning. A-16 project: 12 slides including subtitles and references, some pictures would have added more visual appeal; the discussion is excelent, how the events were interpreted in the context of racial biases of the day, and how in post-exoneration presentations the exonerees were able to shift the public discourse; overall, excellent analysis, could use more stylistic development. A-24/30

bathhouse --  one page, single-spaced, plus news article visuals, and references; the topic is great, the media coverage looks promising, and you already have an idea of what the 'voices' are. excellent beginning. A17 preview: 4.2. 16 slides with notes, each slide with an image and discussion of how the media influences public discourse, (or tries to), with an explicit visual angle; overall, excellent. project: 16 slides including titleslide and refsslide; historical photos, and minimal text on the slides; the text is in the notes, and the analysis is excellent and illustrates the tensions of the time. A+27

poverty -- 6 pages including titlepage, and small refspage; this is a strong 'meta-analysis' of how the 'problem' of poverty is discussed, and its political consequences, almost from a poli sci or social work perpective; some actual examples would help fill it out and show what is meant in the analysis; overall, strong beginning. A-16 preread: 13 slides with pictures and minimal text; there is research summarized, and a breakdown of seniors and children; overall, looks complete. project: 10 dspaced pages including titlepage, refspage, subtitles, and pictures; the premise that how the poor are talked about and how they are treated is sound, and more examples would make it clearer; overall, the writing in the document is a bit rough, but the slide presentation is concise and to the point; overall, good work, could be refined more. B22.5/30

mmiwg -- 4 pages including titlepage, subtitles, and extensive refspage; there is a good goal here, to look at media coverage (in general) and see whether this topic is framed in a positive way; including some examples of news coverage, and mention of how the sample will be collected would add more detail. overall, good. B15 project: extension; 14 slides with an interesting design, and text in the notes; some slides are difficult to read, eg. #5 & 6; slide 8 refers to dialogue and conversation, so including some examples of this would strengthen the analysis, as it would with the 'media narrative'; slides 10 and 11 more specifically reference the discourse used which creates an impression on the reader; overall, this is a good topic, and there are references to how the media does not do a good job; more on how the articles were selected, and more explicit examples of discourse would strengthen the analysis. B22.5/30

syndrome -- 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, plus webrefs; looking at how different women are treated in the media, as victims, perpetrators, etc., will be interesting; some sample discourse from a selection would better show where the analysis is headed; overall, good topic, could use some examples. B-14 project: extension; 10 dspaced pages with subtitles, refspage (mostly web-references), no images or diagrams; the free-ranging discussion uses a few posts from social media to illustrate how the two women are treated; more examples, and more discussion of the implications of that treatment would advance the analysis; overall, interesting, and could be developed more stylistically (with pctures) and substantively. B22.5

ab/use -- 6 pages with titlepage, 2 refspages, subtitles, and pictures; the idea of looking at media coverage of drugs is good, and the potential database is named along with possible search terms -- this will produce a large (possibly unmanageable) sample from which to analyze; excellent beginning, could use some examples. A17 project: 10 slides with (too much) text sometimes, diagrams and charts, newspaper page headlines; the analysis uses 'framing' to discuss the portrayal of users, dealers, etc; what stands out is the slide design, informative and interesting; overall, excellent work. opioids -- 4 pages including 2 sspaced text pages with subtitles, and titlepage, refspage; this is a good beginning from which to look at the 'opioid crisis', and how it is handled politically, perhaps; more on the discourse 'construction' of the problem would anchor it better in the course; overall, needs more focus on discourse. C+13.5 project: extension; 18 slides including titleslide, diagrams, and refsslide; all the text is on the slides and none is in the notes, which makes for crowded slides and (perhaps) a short essay; there are a lot of up to date statistics on the problem, and on slide 10 reference is made to how addicts are referred to, eg. criminals, and that the discourse has changed recently; including some examples of 'neighbour's concerns' on slide 15 would help illustrate the discourse analysis; overall, this is a good presentation on the 'drug problem', and needs to highlight the discourse more expicitly. B-21/30

homeless3 -- 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, pictures, and also an extensive refspage; the main theme is that news coverage of the death in SJ of a homeless guy is individualistic, focusing on his actions, rather than talking about homelessness in general; excellent beginning. A17 project: extension; 17 slides including titleslide, 4 refsslides, pictures, and videolinks; the theme of dominant vs resistant is excellent, and showing how it gradually changes in the course of time and evolving media coverage is also excellent; grounding the discussion in a local example and looking at media coverage of it was a good choice; overall, clear, shows work, and presented well. A+27/30

creeps -- one page, plus some references; interesting topic, and of course the main feature of media coverage of such cases is the use of the language of predation, and it is used in a very moralistic way; this is a good beginning, but rudimentary, more expansion of the analysis would show where it is going. B-14 project: extension; 6 dspaced pages, including refspage with two media refs, none academic; what the analysis covers is the workings of the show, which would be a good media and crime project; what the analysis doesn't cover is the discourse, the language of moralism, the way in which the 'creeps' are described, talked to, and talked about; overall, good topic, needs to have a discourse analysis. C+20/30

gen/violence -- 2 pages plus titlepage, and 2 references; the idea that the media reflects and perpetuates norms which might make gender based violence acceptable, or to argue for action against it, is good; some discussion of the sample to be examined, and maybe an example would make it more persuasive. overall, good. B- 14 project: 10 slides including titlepage and mixed refspage; no subtitles or images; showing examples of, eg. "this underscores the pivotal role language plays in shaping societal attitudes and responses to this urgent social problem" would strengthen the analysis; overall, the discussion is very analytic across a variety of media domains, and using examples would ground it more expicitly, good work. B+23

police -- 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, plus 2 references; looking at police violence, and at public protests over police violence is a very contemporary topic, and the BLM movement, for example, really showed the importance of this discourse; including an example of how police violence is talked about would strengthen the analysis. B+15.5 project: 18 slides, including titleslide and refsslide; the slides are cleanly designed, although with sometimes too much text; the essay component is in the notes, but it is a little short; the task is clearly defined, and news examples are analysed; the claim that news coverage of violent events can spark a decline in public confidence is good; overall, this has a lot of good directions: public confidence, legal change, persecution of minorities, etc.; overall, excellent work, could develop the essay component more. A-24/30

jasmine -- 1 sspaced page with subtitles, picture, and 2 references; this is a novel and unusual case; it is mentioned that media coverage was sensationalistic in this 2006 case -- showing an example of what sensationalism looks like would help anchor the approach and prepare the reader; overall, good case, needs example. B+15.5 project: 10 slides including titleslide and refsslide; the timeline of this tragedy is clear, with the potential for sensationalistic media coverage, which is explained on the slides and less in the notes; there is too much text on the slides and not enough for the essay component in the notes (3 slides); when talking about tabloidization or emotional appeal, etc, using examples would help ground the analysis more; overall, needs more explicit development of what the media coverage 'looked like'. C19/30

youths -- 4 sspaced pages including titlepage, subtitles, picture, and refspage; excellent beginning, there is a media sample, there are statistical patterns which ground the analysis and give it context, and there is a preliminary analysis of exaggeration, for example; no need for a larger sample, this really works well. A17 project: extension; 20 slides including titleslide, and 8 refsslides; there are articles, themes, statistics, all based on a clearly defined news database using the global news online site; the amount of text in the notes is short for the essay component, and the moral panic angle cold be developed more; overall, good topic, good work, could develop the essay more. A26/30

children --  with 3703; 1.5 sspaced pages with subtitles, picture, and mixed refs; it is unclear how this is about the environment, or how it involves discourse; the two should be spelled out more pointedly; is climate change an issue?, is there a lot of talk about it in the summer? C-12 please redo. redo: 1 sspaced page with subtitles, photo, one govt ref; the topic is now acid rain, with some mention of why it happens and the effect on the environment; there is no mention of discourse, except more generally about education campaigns... some examples would make the proposal more explicitly about both classes; overall, good topic, needs refs and more of a discourse angle. --> C13

montreal -- 5 pages including titlepage, refspage, subtitles, and pictures; looking at gender-based violence in general, and at the montreal massacre in particular, would be improved by including some discourse on how the event was interpreted, talked about, and discussed; how, for example, was the shooter discussed? C+13.5 project: 9 dspaced pages including titlepage, refspage, no subtitles or images; there are a lot of sentences that need to be reworded for clarity, eg. "Due to the multidisciplinarity of gun control studies and because it is essential to to compare the collected data with the vast data available on this subject (because even the young children should be rigidly controlled and who knows which idea would work unless it would be tried once relying on the already existing data), additional funding and extended time was required for this large-scaled project"...overall, this needs to be redone, as the objective and reasoning is not clear. F10

sexwork2 -- there is a brief intro, and then the rest are summaries of news articles?; should have a separate biblio; it would be stronger to write the analysis using these articles as illustrations, however it is apparent that there are distinct gender/sexuality biases in them; overall, good detail, needs rewriting as complete text. B15 reread B+15.5 redo: 2 sspaced pages with illustration, and one page mixed refs; reorganized, and presented in a more usual textual style, it reads quite well. thanks A17 project: word-doc: 6 dspaced pages plus titlepage, and refspage, no subtitles or images in the word doc; using subtitles would help to organize themes better in the discussion, as it is not apparent what is being studied, eg. news accounts, media dramas, speeches?; there seems to be a playoff between the issue of perverts or workers...; overall, themes are not clear, and perhaps could be re-developed. the powerpoint, on the other hand, did organize the essay by themes, which added some clarity... B-21/30

metoo -- late with excuse (2 weeks); 2 pages sspaced with subtitles, picture, and web-references; there are some stats on reporting sexual assault, and some changes which have come about due to the metoo movement; the survey seems to be an interesting way to get comments and feedback; good beginning. B+15.5 project: extension; 15 pages including titlepage and refspage, with subtitles, quotations, and diagrams; this shows a lot of work, and the results are not surprising as it reaffirms the positive impact the movement has had; overall, this shows initiative, careful consideration of survey design, and interpretation of the results, excellent work. A+27/30

videogames -- late with no extension (4.23); 2 sspaced pages with subtitles, mixed refs; looking at the controversy around videogames, and how it has persisted over the years, which of course is rooted in a deeper concern over 'kids'; overall, good topic, well organized, quotations will really help it work. B-14 project: extension, late 4.26; 4 dspaced pages with subtitles, no pictures, plus one page mixed refs; this is a good topic, and it would add detail to the argument if more quotations were used about games and violence; adding visuals from games would also add to the analysis; overall, this is too short for the length requirement, but could easily be amended with more on discourse, arguments for, arguments against, etc. D15
