Research work-- proposal and project

freshwater -- 2 people, 2 sspaced pages including references (none academic); it opens with a discussion of Shoal First Nation, and the city of Winnipeg and how it takes water (environmental theft) from the FN, leaving Lake Winnipeg polluted; stylistically, adding subtitles would help identify and develop themes more, and adding pictures would add to the visualization of what the problem looks like; overall, good topic, needs more context (ie. boil water advisories, third world conditions, efforts at cleanup ), and visual development, especially for two people. B-14

grafprotest -- 2 sspaced pages with subtitles and pictures, no references; this is a great idea, looking at environmental graffiti as protest; the examples are good, and the theme of protest is good; ir would benefit from a few references, and more description/analysis of the examples, but overall excellent beginning. A 17/20

animalrights -- 3 sspaced pages, including subtitles, webrefs; key in animal rights activism is the media, and how they can be used for education, and also how they portray the activists; three theories will be used: framing, moral panic, and social identity theory; it is unclear what 'media' will be used, and how it will be selected, but the overall idea of looking at the effect of media coverage is good. B 15

earth -- this looks like a very exciting and interesting project: "what if the earth could fight back", using various elements like water, air, and earth; the descriptions of each of the ten sections is nuanced and evocative, to be accompanied by pictures and poetry; this is very creative (and ambitious), could benefit from a few references and a sample of the poetry, but overall excellent work. A+ 18/20

quebecforest -- two pages of notes, with pictures and intext references; there is a lot of history here, and reference to indigenous rights; a more conventional organization of text and references would enhance the text's presentation, but this is an important piece of historical confrontation over forestry; good beginning. B+15.e

corpfishing -- 1 page with subtitles, no refs; the net is cast quite widely, but doesn't catch many fish :) the topic is quite broad, and that is okay if it is a series of issues that add up to widespread corporate exploitation of ocean resources; overall, quite broad, could be narrowed down, or supported by some research. C+13

birthdefects -- late; 5 pages, including titlepage, refspage; a very important issue, and would benefit from subtitles (to organize themes and issues), and photos (of protests?); and perhaps there could be something added on any treatments that were tried; overall, good topic, good beginning
