Prompt #23
April 1, 2011
finding out about Autobahn, second try

A presentation

We should have a presentation from the Task Force on Neil LaBute's Autobahn. We'll discuss it as we did the one last Friday on Fanshen, by inkshedding for ten minutes, reading and marking, and then seeing whether people have questions or issues that it would be useful to talk about here and now.

The Editorial Team should have a look at the inksheds and then get them back to my office later today. The deadline for assembling a draft of a Playgoer's Companion and posting it on the wiki will be tonight (but, of course, earlier is better).

Reflecting on writing about attending performances

As we did with looking at postings in which people reflected on reading scripts, I want to take some time to reflect on writing, and thinking, about performance.

So, between now and next Monday morning, go back through the Forums in which people have posted on their experiences of reading a script, and find at least two postings which you found most challenging or enlightening. They will probably be ones you responded to, though not necessarily; read more widely than simply the ones you responded to. It'll be worth taking some time to compare postings; and, indeed, you may find one that you missed reading the first time.

When you've found one write, as before, an email to russell.hunt@stu.ca (that's an address which allows me to handle emails in a separate folder) which includes the name of the writer and the play written about, and the URL of the posting (you can find that, while you're reading the posting, in the "location" window at the top of the browser. It will look something like this: https://moodle.stu.ca/moodle/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=#### . You can copy that and paste it into your email message. Then, in the message, explain as clearly as you can in a paragraph or two what you found especially challenging or enlightening about the posting. When you find a second posting, send a separate email (it makes it easier for me to handle the printing). Send your email before Monday morning.

We'll talk about these, and your experience of reading other people's writing and learning from it, in class on Wednesday.

Transportation

On the assumption that people may need to organize transportation to Saint John for Autobahn, I've set up a wiki, linked from the main course page. If you're driving and have space, post that; if you need a drive, post that.
