English 2223: The Page and the Stage
A Research Strategy: Academic Search Premier

One way to get to a range of work on Sam Shepard and Buried Child
  1. Go to the Library main web site
  2. Click on "Article & Research Databases"
  3. Under " Browse for databases by title" find "Academic Search Premier"
  4. Click GO, and then "Academic Search Premier"
  5. [If you're off campus, you will probably have to log in at this point, as you would on the STU system]
  6. You're now in EBSCO host. It searches a number of databases; in this case, ASP is the one you want
  7. In the top window, put "Sam Shepard" (you need the quotes; otherwise it seaches for all the places whether both those words occur)
  8. Leave "Select a Field" alone, and click Search
  9. You'll get more than 400 results. Many will be relevant, and you can browse through all of them. But . . .
  10. If you want to find only articles directly relevant to this play, go Back
  11. In the second line, to the right of AND, type in "Buried Child," and click Search again
You'll have a list of 21 hits. Some won't be obviously relevant, but probably at least mention the play. Not all -- not most, in fact -- are actually available on line.  When you find one that looks interesting, click "Check for fulltext" and follow the directions. Some of them will be available in print, in the library, though not on line. It's worth going down to find them.
