English 2223: The Page and the Stage
A Research Strategy: MLA

One way to get to a range of work on Sam Shepard and Buried Child
  1. Go to the Library main web site
  2. Click on "Article & Research Databases"
  3. Under " Browse for databases by title" find "Modern Language Association (MLA) Bibliography"
  4. Click GO, and then "Modern Language Association (MLA) Bibliography"
  5. [If you're off campus, you will probably have to log in at this point, as you would on the STU system]
  6. Click SEARCH
  7. Next to "Author as Subject" click "select from thesaurus"
  8. In the Look For window, type "Shepard" and click "Look For"
  9. In the list of names that appears in the window, click the box next to Shepard, Sam, and then the Blue "Select"
  10. Next to "Author's Work" click "select from thesaurus"
  11. In the Look For window, type "Buried Child" and click "Look For"
  12. In the list of works that appears in the window, click the box next toBuried child, and then the Blue "Select"
  13. Now click the blue Search button
You'll have a list of 46 hits. Not all -- not most, in fact -- are actually available on line.  When you find one that looks interesting, click "Check for fulltext" and follow the directions. Many of them will be available in print, in the library, though not on line. It's worth going down to find them.
