Sharing Swift readings

Reading Swift

As I said last time, this week "I'd like us to be able to read all the reports and make a decision about which one work (or possibly two) of Swift we'll read over the holidays as a way of finishing our work on him and be ready at the beginning of the second term to scout out other major writers of nonfiction we should attend to."

There are a set of reports on reading works by Swift on the  "Reading Swift" forum. Many of them are thoughtful and valuable reading. We'll take the rest of class time today, and what you can budget between now and Wednesday afternoon, to read all of them and to respond reflectively to as many as you can. Respond to at least five by the end of class time at 4:00, and to at least three more by tomorrow night. You should have read all of them by class time. If you can reply to any of the responses to your own posting by class time, that would be useful, too.

Wednesday we'll decide on one or two texts that will be your Christmas present. To facilitate that decision, please be ready to make an argument for one of them in class. You should come armed with quotes from at least one of the reports, or from writing about Swift in the scholarly and critical literature.

Looking back, and forward, to learning reflections

I posted my thoughts on the mid-first-term learning reflections over the weekend.  If you haven't, take a look and we'll discuss the process on Wednesday.
