The Foreign Secretary of France, who was opposed to the freeing of the Jews.
Padre Tomaso de Camangiano
He was an Italian Monk who was Superior of a Capuchin cloister in Damascus. The
Capuchin order had placed Padre Tomaso in Damascus. He originally was educated
in France but was now in Damascus performing missionary work. In Damascus he and
his servant were murdered
Capuchin
These are a brotherhood of Monks from Italy which Padre Tomaso originated from
. This group had various sects scattered through out Europe. One of which was
in Damascus.
Ibrahim Amara
He was Padre Tomaso's servant. On the day that Padre Tomaso went missing
Ibrahim went to look for him in the Jewish quarters. He never returned from
these quarters. He was also a victim of a victim of ritual murder.
Muhammad Ali
He was the ruler of Egypt, which was under Turkish rule. France supported
Muhammad Ali because they believed he was in the best position to spread French
influence into the Middle East.
Ibrahim Pasha
He was Muhammad's son who defeated Sultan Selim I and the Turkish army..
Sultan Selim I
He was leader of Turkey at the time. He was defeated by Ibrahim Pasha.

He was the French consul that during the Thomas case, the French were under
protection by. He invited the Syrian general to prosecute the case.
Sherif Pasha
He was an Arab Muslim governor of Damascus. On February 7 it
was suggested that
the investigation of Damascus be turned over to him.
Suleiman Negrin
He was an Israeli barber, who lived near the synagogue. His shop, in which one
of the monk's leaflets was found, was considered the last known whereabouts of
Padre Tomaso and his servant. He was arrested and tortured until he confessed
about who killed Padre Tomaso.

brothers Isaac and Aaron.)- These were the men that were involved in the murder
of Padre Tomaso and his servant.

David Harari's brother and one of the men responsible for the death of Father
Tomaso.

It was his house that it had been said that Thomas had been killed in.

It was claimed that Thomas' Muslim servant was killed at this man's house. This
was where the servant was sent to find Padre before he was killed.

He was an Austrian citizen.

He was the honorary Austrian consul in Paris. He tried to intervene with the
French Government about the Damascus case after being sent a report on it. He
then got no response. So he published a report.
Adolphe Cremieux
He was a prominent lawyer and orator in France at the time. he attempted to
convince the King of France to stop the persecution of the Jews.
Solomon Rothschild
He was James' brother.
Martin Van Buren
He was the President of the United States of America during 1840. He was
in favour of saving the Damascus Jews.
Moses Montefiore
He was part of a Jewish delegation, whose went to speak to Muhammad Ali.
