Stigmata: In Imitation of Christ
Author: Joe Nickell
This text is well written and goes into great
depth about Stigmata and how it came to be. It gives evidence of Stigmata,
what forms Stigmata can come from "Similarly, the wound in the side (representing
the Roman soldier's lance [John 19:34]) has appeared at different locations
in the right or left side, or has been variously shaped". It gives many
references to the bible and how Stigmata and the bible connect.
This article is basically a huge list of references
and citations. The author gives the reader information that he found else
where and if not he puts in brackets what bible verse or author he got
the idea from. That is why I believe this text is valid. Am example is
"Similarly, the 1974 crucifixion vision of Ethel Chapman, during which
her stigmata allegedly appeared, was "based on the images in an illustrated
Bible which she'd been given' (Harrison 1994, 128; Wilson 1988, 147)."
This text would be good to use if you were stuck with the topic and had
nothing to refer to. Even though the author does not offer any links to
other sites he does have a lengthy bibliography at the end of the site.
Also it is noted that the article came into place in July 2000.
I think this would be a good site to use for a
student working on the themes project because it is a good lengthy text
with lots of references for actual books that one could continue research
on.
