Falconry at Crathes Castle
17 June 2012
First,
the falconry folks brought a lot of birds out -- they didn't fly them
all, because as they explained some are more uncomfortable than others
in a strange location. There were a half dozen at least, including a
bald eagle
, a couple of hawks,
, an unidentified
but fierce owl
, a blue eagle,
, and our buddy Smudge, a barn owl.
They flew the birds
by whistling
and sometimes they didn't land
exactly where they should
. But the offer of food
got them down.
Meme was the first one of us to catch
Smudge
and discover
how amazingly
soft
and friendly
she was --
we think she
liked Anne.
And she was
lovely, too.
