From the parking lot we went up the wonderful stairs
to the interpretation centre, and then on back, past the real
hikers, to the suspension bridge
under the brand new highway bridge
and across
to the beginning
of the footpath.
We decided
to leave that for another day and take the trail marked "to the Hearst
Lodge." About a half hour in we found a washout. Down one side,
across the bottom
(the
path used to be
just above
Anne's head), and up
the
other side. The trail was labeled "challenging," and
it was -- but the river
was
just below us
and led
to this gorgeous
salmon
pool We did wonder where the rest of this tree
had got to. And then it was back along the road (this is the turnoff just above
the interpretation centre), and
the rest of
these were taken at turnoffs along the
road
back
out.
