Some consequences:
- Helping students mean by "revision" something
other than "fixing" or copying over in ink
- Helping students see why word choices matter, and not
just for "correctness"
- Helping students read as though the meanings mattered
(not as though there were going to be a test)
- Putting students in a position where something more than
a mark depends on their ability to write comprehensibly what they've learned
- Giving students social motives for writing well
