Projects and Performances


Reading: Fisher & Frey (2007). Chapter 5 - "Using Projects and Performances to Check Understanding"

 

This assignment focuses on the process by which you create your project/performance. You will also provide a response to the learning goal stated below.

 

Your Learning Goal is to answer the following question:  “How can performance and projects compliment paper and pencil tests to validly assess  student learning?”

 

Guidelines:

 

1.      I encourage you to develop a project or performance that you can incorporate into your web folio.

 

2.      Your ‘entry’ can take any of the following forms:

 

a)     Poem

b)     Poster

c)     Readers’ Theatre performance

d)     Multi-media presentation

e)     Graphic organizer

f)      Foldable

g)     Diorama

h)     Public performance

i)      Other manner approved by the teacher

 

3.      You must develop and submit a rubric that can be used to assess your work both  formatively and summatively. (The same rubric can do both)

 

4.      You must build at least one peer assessment into your work.

 

5.      Your work should assess a higher level learning that cannot be assessed using a paper
    and pencil test/quiz

 

6.      Presentations will be organized by project type and scheduled using a sign up sheet that
    will be posted by January 30.
