Constitutional Matter
STUSU Constitution
An organization’s
constitution defines its form, structure, activities, character, and
fundamental values.
Our Students’ Union
constitution is there to assist the SRC, and the students abroad, to
create and harbor a democratically animate university community. It is a
set of rules that govern the activities of the Union. Throughout the year
the Constitution Committee chaired by the VP Administration checks our
constitution to ensure that it is best fit to serve its purpose. If you
have any questions or queries about our constitution talk to the
VP Administration.
A constitution is meant
to be a long-term document, hence it can not be too specific to individual
events. However, it is must also be precise enough to deter confusion or
misunderstanding. One law of the Constitution that demonstrates this is
the provision that any amendments to the Constitution must be tabled for
two weeks and then approved by at least two-thirds of the voters.
Our Constitution includes
important information like the responsibilities of the SRC voting members,
non-voting members and staff and who is to be a member of the Union.

By-Laws.
The By-Laws of a
constitution are intended to be rules that govern the internal management
of the Union. These are, like the Constitution, intended to be long-term
policies as it also takes two weeks to amend a By-Law. However, if there
is a contradiction between the By-Laws and the Constitution, the law in
the Constitution overrules the one in the By-Laws.
Our By-Laws has important
information about elections, how the meetings are to be run, and what
happens if someone is to resign.

STUSU Policy Manual
The St. Thomas University
Students' Union Policy Manual serves to provide a basic framework of the
Union's many areas of focus. The Policy Manual includes internal policies
regarding finances, human resources, and council operations, position
statements on relevant student issues, job descriptions of Union staff,
awards, and many other important issues. Sound interesting to you? See
