Welcome Week

Welcome Week Chair,
Sammy Baker

Welcome Week occurs at the beginning of the Fall Semester. This week of fun and recreation helps first year students acquaint themselves with their classmates, the university, and the City of Fredericton as a whole. Held in an exciting, yet safe manner, Welcome Week lets students meet each other without being pressured to do so. We take pride in our alcohol free week. There are a variety of activities that are offered each year, so there will surely be something to interest every new student.

Another benefit of Welcome Week is to help new students get to know other members of the St. Thomas community. Every year, Welcome Leaders are selected to assist in the operation of this week. These rewarding volunteer opportunities are available to all students at St. Thomas, and can be applied for through the Welcome Week Chairperson.

In the middle of Welcome Week the official greeting by the university takes place. At this time, you will be given the famous “T” Pin, to show that you are now a part of the community. You will keep this pin until you receive the famous “T” Ring when you graduate. Exciting times!

Finally, the week ends with the Annual AIDS Walk.  All students are encouraged to attend this community wide event. Registration will be in the James Dunn Cafeteria and the walk will kick off in the STU courtyard. We will be traveling down to Queens Square for refreshments and prize draws. The Walk is a huge fundraiser for AIDS NB, raising tens of thousands of dollars annually. (Visit their site here.)
