continuing work on guides for one-act plays
further work on the one-act plays
There are three drafts to complete today, in the same way that we did the last two sets. The groups, if you need to be reminded, are below.
As we did previously, you should meet, decide on the best compilation
of information you can that's between 500 and 1000 words, and save it as
a file -- this time called guide3.htm -- in the engl2223
folder of one member of the group, and email me (as soon as you've done
that, but no later than noon) to tell me whose folder it's in. Everyone
should have brought a printout of the research she did; if not, you can
go to the lab and print it, or work from the online version if everybody's
okay with that.

Again, if someone's not here but her material is available, you should use it as you would were she here (check to see if it's on line); if someone's here but has no material it's up to you whether you consider what she has to offer.
We have one further play to do. If you were unable to get a guideX.htm file together for one of the previous ones, and would like a second chance, email me and say so, and I'll create a link to a report for you, so you can participate in working on The Happy Journey. Preliminary research files, named playrep4.htm, will need to be in place before Monday morning.
Editing
We'll also continue editing the guides. As before, after the draft guides are posted today, you should read through the two you weren't involved in (they will be linked from the main course page) and post a thoughtful and helpful comment or suggestion for improvement on the relevant Forum (there are also links to that section of the Forum for each play on the main course page). For these three, you'll need to do that before Monday morning (let's say by 9 am).
How we're going to do the final edits
I've decided that we're going to try to get them down to one page each, and we'll need small groups to do that. I'll put the ten plays on the whiteboard, with slots under each for two or three names; you should sign up for two (some will have two people, others three). There's no need to sign up for one you worked on; in fact, I'd suggest working on at least one you didn't do the research on. Between now and Wednesday at class time, either on line or by meeting (Monday morning's a good time, usually), you'll be responsible for creating a guide that will fit on one 8 1/2 by 11 page, using 12 point Roman type, with a graphic or two, if you can find any. We'll have a final look at them in class on Wednesday and I'll undertake to publish a booklet that can be handed out at the performance.
Save them as whatever you like (as long as there are no spaces in the
filename, and it ends in .htm), and tell me what the
filename is and whose engl2223 folder it's in so I
can create a link to it.
