discussing The Rover, and more one-act play work

The Rover

There's been some -- but not as much as I'd hoped -- discussion of people's experience of the production of The Rover on line.  Bear in mind that you need, if you haven't, to post a reflection on having seen the production, and to respond to the postings of two other people by Friday. Remember, too, that these reflections are your main chance to learn about what differences what you know and bring with you to the theatre can make to your experience in the theatre. A few lines of evaluation -- I liked it, I didn't like it -- don't constitute a reflection.

We'll come back to this discussion after we've created our best shot at guides for the one-acters. But since they're going up the weekend after next, we need to finalize our work on the guides by a week from today, so we'll focus on that.

further work on the one-act plays

There are two things we need to do: one is to take into account the advice groups received for their guides on Check, Please, The Philadelphia, and The Battle of Bull Run, and the other is to assemble the research we have on Ferris Wheel, Daniel on a Thursday, and That Midnight Rodeo into Draft Guides.

The second is, I think, more immediate, so we'll spend today's class giving those groups a chance to work.  As we did last time, you should meet, decide on the best compilation of information you can that's between 500 and 1000 words, and save it as a file -- this time called guide2.htm -- in the engl2223 folder of one member of the group, and email me (as soon as you've done that, but no later than noon) to tell me whose folder it's in. Everyone should have brought a printout of the research she did; if not, you can go to the lab and print it, or work from the on line version if everybody's okay with that. Here are the groups, in case you need a reminder . . .

Ferris Wheel
Courtney Cameron
Scott Saulnier
Hilja Lindala
Yasmin Glinton
Daniel on a Thursday
Andrea Hynes
Sally Smith
Christopher Campbell
Jeremy Peck
That Midnight Rodeo
Rebecca Rankin
Greg Keezer
Nick Comeau
Alisha Sweezey

If someone's not here but her material is available, you should use it as you would were she here (check to see if it's on line); if someone's here but has no material it's up to you whether you consider what she has to offer.

For Friday

We'll continue with the third set of groups. They're also listed on the "Research reports on one-act plays" file on the course main page. As before, if you have a preference for a different play and can find someone to swap with you, feel free, and let me know so I can change the listing.

Your research assignment for the next two sets of plays is going to be the same: find what you can, bring it to class, and put it together in a document. Your second research file -- called playrep3.htm -- will be due at class time Friday.

Editing

We'll also continue editing the guides. As before, after the draft guides are posted today, you should read through the two you weren't involved in (they will be linked from the main course page) and post a thoughtful and helpful comment or suggestion for improvement on the relevant Forum (there are also links to that section of the Forum for each play on the main course page). For these three, you'll need to do that by the end of the day tomorrow, the 10th.
