Sharing background on Defoe, focusing on further reading
Reports on research forays
Since last time, you've possibly done a bit more reading in Defoe, probably read what other folks had to say about their own reading, and then most likely spent an hour or so in the library or on line to find at least one scholarly resource that has something interesting or illuminating or thought-provoking to say about the work you've been reading. You've quoted or summarized it, explained why you found it worth bringing to our attention, and posted it as a reply to your own descriptive report.
In class today we'll invite everybody to tell us about what you read and especially about what you found.
That probably won't take the whole class; after we've been around I'll ask you to spend an hour this afternoon reading the postings on the Wider reading in Defoe forum (feel free to respond, ask questions, point out issues that might be questionable), and then, before 6:00, send me (hunt@stu.ca) an email in which you list, in order, the two (or three) readings in Defoe you'd like to read (or read in) next. I'll create a new prompt with some assigned readings for next Monday. With some luck we'll be narrowing down to one or two texts we can all read and discuss.
