Beliefs

This whole case is based around beliefs and women fighting for them. One very obvious belief is that the five women, Emily Murphy, Irene Parlby, Henrietta Edwards, Louise McKinney and Nellie McClung all thought and knew they were equals to the men, though certain men disagreed. They wanted women to be "persons" under the law and constitute the same rights as men. Many prestigious men fought against the women including priests, politicians, physicians and judges. They believed that a woman could not hold a place in the senate let alone do anything outside their homes. One thing that helped the women pursue their case was their religious beliefs allowing for strong thoughts of equality. All five of the women were actively involved not only in women's rights groups but as well as many religious groups telling us they not only believed in equality but they also believed in God. These five famous women risked their reputations because of their beliefs so that women could be equal and for that they will always be remembered.
