The Morning Pour
September 1
The concrete truck was out there in the dawn by 6:30
and by 7:02 was backed up
to the forms. The finisher had arrived
a few minutes earlier, and pretty soon
it began. It took all of them,
with Garth and Tim moving concrete
and raising the rebar net. Soon the truck moved
to the other side and
began filling from there.
The most interesting thing was this machine
which was actually a level, sending out a beam by which the finisher determined
the surface was level. At some point a second truck
arrived to fill the south end
Bill Holland arrived to inspect
and point out the problems: the south wall had actuall deformed
under the weight of the concrete. But they agreed it wasn't serious and
pretty soon (by 9:30) it was
down to finishing work.
And by lunchtime it was pretty well hung out to dry.
