Objectives

School Law seeks to inform pre-service teachers of the legal expectations they assume when employed as professional educators. These expectations begin with the first day of the internship. Toward this end the objectives of the course are to:

1.     Familiarize interns with the range of legal documents with which they must become aware.

2.     Provide the basic knowledge of educational law.

3.     Introduce the intern to the importance of professional conduct.

4.     Provide knowledge of the consequences of contravening educational law.

5.     Create a practice of informed reflection that drives teacher decision making.

6.     Develop the research skills necessary to investigate legal issues important to practicing teachers.

7.     Successfully complete the law tests required for teacher certification in New Brunswick.
