Course Objectives

 

Students will:


a) Realize that assessment and instruction are integral parts of classroom teaching.


b) Recognize the impact that assessment has on learner motivation.


c) Incorporate current research on assessment and grading, applications of motivational theory, and instructional experience to inform their teaching.


d) Differentiate between formative and summative assessment.


e) Differentiate between norm referenced and criterion referenced assessment.


f) Explore the role of standardized testing and be aware of its role in the NB education system.


g)
Recognize the role of: paper & pencil tests, projects & performances, and portfolios.


h) Write effective samples of both selected and constructed response assessment items.

i) Construct accurate assessment instruments (test, quizzes, projects, performances).

j) Explore the issues surrounding evaluation and grading practices.
