EDUC 5913 S
Measurement & Evaluation

Assignments

This course is based on both theory and practice. Assignments will be based on the various
kinds of assessment you will be expected to hone to improve your skills as a classroom
teacher.

Chapter Reflections – 40%

This mark consists of two parts. The first will reflect each student’s understanding of the
material assigned for reading
before class. First, you will be required to read five chapters
and to write a one to one and a half page summary of the key points in the reading.
Second, you will be required to take part in a peer review for each reading. The chapter
reflections will be valued at 30% and the peer review process at 10%

Tests and Quizzes – 30%

This assignment will focus on the material taken during the course. It will be a pen and
paper test written in class, with a rewrite during the following class for those who have
permission
. Additional assessments such as quizzes, entrance/exit slips, or activities
may also be assigned.

Assessment Projects – 10%

This assignment replaces one of the article reflections - the Fisher & Frey reading.
The instructions for this assignment are posted under the link "Additional Useful
Files".

Assessment Portfolio – 10%

This assignment will model the content outlined in the reading by Stiggins et al (2006).
It is an assessment portfolio, consists of examples of each of the various assessment
types and will be submitted before the last class session. The rubric used to assess the
portfolio will be developed in class.

Assessment Presentations - 10%

This assignment will examine recent articles taken from academic journals. You will
sign up for both the article and the date upon which you will present what you have
learned to the class.
