The Professional Learning Community

 

Course Objectives

 

 

 

Students will:

 

1.      be knowledgeable on the basic tenets of a Professional Learning Community,

 

2.      recognize the impact that the PLC approach has on school culture,

 

3.      incorporate concepts of essential curriculum, common assessment, professional collaboration, continuous improvement, focus on learning, and shared decision making into their teaching philosophy,

 

4.      develop and exhibit successful team building skills,

 

5.      practice the skills for a) active listening, and b) conflict resolution,

 

6.      practice a) vision building, b) mission identification and, c) setting SMART goals,  

 

7.      develop and deliver a presentation on PLCs to an audience that lacks prior knowledge of the topic.

 

8.      be prepared to assume a collaborative role as a teacher in a profesional learning community.


9.  become a resource person for PLC implementation at the school level.
